Shoko Nagai's TOKALA

"Shoko Nagai's TOKALA" explores the ancient connection between Japan and middle east via silk road where cultural exchange happened and left an imprint which became integral part of Japanese culture.

Our concept of bringing together the Japanese folk, pop music and middle eastern music is exactly in line of concept of the bridge between the artistic heritage of world culture. We have seen the art works, instruments, and other artistic object form Persian empire preserved in imperial storage in Nara, Japan. We can, but only imagine how it was like for musicians of Japan to hear the sound of Persian court music. And we are sure that it has left a strong imprints deep in the Japanese traditional culture. They were recently seen performing at Brooklyn Museum (NY, First Saturday), Fotograhiska Museum (NY),Bryant Park Summer Stage (NY) to name a few. Tokala is the recipient of the latest NYFA ( New York Foundation for Arts) of City Artist Corps 2021.
